Heres part of a wraparound cover Im doing for my buddy Robert Atkins here on DA-- ~ratkins (DA id-RATKINS--- I gotta learn how to do the links..d'oh) It's the UNCORRECTED version as I'm working on some touch-ups here and there
I wanted to get the word out on this creator owned book because its some cool looking stuff.
I 'm going to publicly apologize because I took WAAAAYYYYYY tooo long on this piece as this is one of those some what RARE ones where I had a prima donna moment and just couldn't get the art where I wanted it. Robert didn't deserve to wait that long.
Long story short, Robert mentioned he thought the layout might be cool if it was sorta close to the Wildcats piece that I did in my gallery. Somewhere along the way, when i started the art , I started to psyche myself out because I wanted to knock the Wildcats one outta the water. I do this to myself every time I try to draw something that means something to me or want to push the bar a little higher. When I met Robert at a show in Richmond, he was so nice a guy, I wanted to make sure I gave him my best work.
I notice I do psyche myself out like that also when I try to draw my favorite characters like HULK or WOLVERINE..... I don't know why, but its not uncommon to go through 2-3 drafts of a piece and trash them because i didn't like the end result.
I may post the others versions that i started here , but this , fortunately and finally came out close to what i had in my had.
Robert is a helluva work horse and is doing some great ...no amazing stuff on G.I. Joe and I suggest you look his stuff up on DA and buy 3 copies or more of every issue of JOE and RUNESTONE from APE that he does.
I hope if everyone digs this, then check his books out.
Overall a really nice cover. A minor quibble though. The blonde character at the top right. the position you have her in makes it look as though the leg you cannot see is not attached to her body because of the arm behind her.
Other than that, refer to my first sentance.
Nice work!
Tod
p.s. it's :icon ratkins: but without the space....
i wish i could ink some of your work
